How Alert works

  1. Raise itFrom the app, the website, or by phone call or text from a number your school has registered. It still works when nobody can sign in.
  2. Everyone is toldOn staff phones, by text, email and phone call. Each person sees which alert it is and what to do.
  3. Everyone answersStaff tap "I'm safe" and pick their room, so you can see who has answered and who hasn't.
  4. Stand it downA person ends the alert. Every alert and practice is kept as a time-stamped record.
  • Call for helpAsk colleagues for help from the app or website, with your room. You can choose to share your location once, so they can find you outside.
  • Working aloneStart a check-in when you work alone. Miss one, and a call for help goes out in your name.
  • Phone readinessSee before an alert whether each phone is set up to show it and sound it.
  • Supply and visitorsGive a day code, and they receive alerts in their browser without an account, until the end of the school day.
  • Off siteStaff can mark themselves as off site, so calls for help go to people in the building. Lockdowns still reach everyone.
  • TrustsTrust leaders see live alerts, open calls for help and readiness across their schools, and can send a bulletin to every school.

Ask about Alert

Write it. Practise it. Keep it.

Alert comes with two tools in my.classroomsounds that help your school write, practise and keep its own safety procedures and paperwork.

Martyn's Law policy builderYour lockdown, invacuation, evacuation and communication procedures, written by your school one section at a time. Book practices and keep a record of every one.Explore the policy builder → Safety FileEvery safety document in one place, with review dates, old versions kept and a fire drill log. Staff can open procedures straight from the alert screen.Explore the Safety File →

Alert is a supplementary communication aid, not a certified alarm system or an emergency service. It does not make a school compliant with Martyn's Law. To receive alerts, phones need signal or Wi-Fi, and charge. In an emergency, always call 999.
